Minimum qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent practical experience.
  • 5 years of experience as a Brazilian Portuguese and English translator,
    linguist, copywriter, writer, or editor.
  • Experience using data to identify trends, inform business-critical decisions, and tell a story from the data.
  • Ability to communicate in Brazilian Portuguese and English fluently.

Preferred qualifications:

  • MBA or Master's degree.
  • Experience in program management.
  • Experience in partner/stakeholder management while working with cross-functional teams and across time-zones.
  • Ability to relate to ambiguity, work independently, and chart the direction of projects.
  • Excellent communication/presentation skills.
  • Demonstrable translation and linguistic skills.

As a Language Manager, you'll develop an understanding of market expectations for localization quality and how Google's products fit in the market. You will work with local teams to develop specific terminology for features and products. You will be building relationships with partner teams to establish needs, deadlines, and budgets.

Responsibilities

  • Be a critical partner for stakeholders in Marketing, Product, and PR to enable native language experiences for Google’s products in Brazil. Understand market priorities, share updates on language strategy and localization services.
  • Create and meaningfully evolve Brazilian Portuguese language guidelines (Style Guide, Terminology) and language strategy, taking into account input from users, stakeholders, and tech language industry trends.
  • Ensure Google's translation and review vendors deliver high quality translations that align with Google’s language standards. Assess vendor metrics to identify issues/trends, use metrics to drive improvements.
  • Develop an expert-level understanding of the region, user expectations for Brazilian Portuguese language quality, and how to use language to achieve market/user needs. Propose language studies and user insights to ever-improve this understanding.
  • Identify opportunities to improve language quality, processes, drive initiatives at the language, and team level.
