The Lead Engineer, will support Steam business projects with expert materials knowledge across the whole range of products and services. He/she will be part of a team and will provide direct specialist support, in a context of increased complexity of projects and fast changes while maintaining conformity to design intent, codes, standards and quality.

Your Role:

  • Recommend and guide material selection appropriate to equipment design and function.
  • Lead the maintenance and development of specifications for material and material processing within the context of any applied codes and standards.
  • Lead the review of manufacturing methods for production of forgings, castings, fabrications and finishing processes across the full scope of products for the Steam business.
  • Liaise with Supplier Quality Engineers and support with supplier qualification where appropriate.
  • Review and respond to supplier derogation requests and non-conformance reports.
  • Delivery of technical assessment of non-conformance reports and supplier derogation requests.
  • Participate in appropriate root causes analyses and quality improvement projects.
  • Provide high level materials support to Products and Services.
  • Delivery of material selection advice for Services.
  • Issue and check technical reports.
  • Participate in cost reduction activities related to material streamlining and harmonization of legacy specifications.
  • Manage positive interfaces with other technical disciplines.
  • Manage positive interfaces with projects in Products and Services.
  • Manage a positive technical interface with GE factories and external suppliers in charge of the components manufacturing.
  • Provide feedback experience to the group (feedback meetings with suppliers and internal, feedback reports)

Basic Qualifications(requirements):

  • BEng/ BSc in Materials Engineering
  • 5 years post graduate experience in an engineering metallurgy role, preferably related to large forgings, large casting, high alloy steels and heat resistant steels.  
  • Demonstrated strong background in metallurgy, particularly metallurgy of steels.
  • Demonstrated strong background in processing of metals (e.g. forging, casting, metal working, fabrication, surface engineering…)
  • Fundamentals of non-destructive testing.

Desired Qualifications:

  • Higher degree in engineering e.g. MSc, MEng, Phd, EngD
  • Rigorous and processes oriented.
  • Strong interpersonal and team skills.
  • Capable of working autonomously.
  • Possess a development mindset – seeks to grow knowledge and ability.
  • Decision-maker
