Kaspersky Americas GReAT (Global Research & Analysis Team) is looking for a bright and motivated intern to assist with our cybersecurity research and other activities. Our ideal candidate will be a great technical resource who has enrolled in a Computer Science or Cybersecurity course at an accredited university. You will need to have excellent verbal and written communication skills in English and you will be involved in various research projects and learn firsthand how to proper Malware Analysis, Reverse Engineering, and APT/Crimeware Threat Intelligence. You will have great interaction with stakeholders including local team members throughout the Americas. It is important to note that this position is an Internship for University Students. Preferred candidates are students enrolled at an accredited University who are studying Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Cybersecurity or similar. Strong English communication skills (both Written and Spoken) are a MUST. While the position will mostly be remote and require a good home office set-up, interns must also be able to work on-site at the local office in Villa Lobos, Sao Paulo when needed and have adequate transportation to the office. What You Will Be Doing: Support on research projects, developing processes, defining priorities, following deadlines, delivering material and sharing to the right teams. Defining malicious functionality in Windows x86/x64, MSIL, mobile threats, and web related malware Keeping current with latest malware threats affecting our customers Communicate with B2B/B2C clients over our e-mail about adding detections Participating in the development of the unit's recommended practices and standards, assumes responsibility for accomplishing group goals Suggesting ideas to be implemented in company’s products, prototyping development; imagine and develop prototypes or new detection technologies Content creation; analyzing and describing malicious programs (malware), on threat intel reports and documentation on various topics Presenting about IT security to wide audiences (customers, internal sales, etc...) Monitoring, analysis and understanding of malware trends at local, regional and global level (country, region, world) Travel to conferences to give presentations is optional, but always encouraged. What You Should Have/Know: Strong desire to learn on your own and share your research with teammates. Interest in malware analysis and security research Knowledge of x86/x64 Intel Assembly (at least 1 year) Basic knowledge of WinAPI Using IDA Disassembler, HIEW, OllyDbg, or Windbg to analyze PE files (at least 1 year) Executable file analysis skills in a hexadecimal editor (Hiew, 010, etc...) Deep knowledge in several of the following fields: o mobile device security and mobile malware o statistical analysis o methods of protection against threats o security best practices o polymorphic malware o rootkits/bootkits Knowledge and skills needed to analyze and understand non-standard threats (MacOS X, ICS, SCADA, ARM, QNX, UEFI/BIOS, etc...) Good knowledge of file formats (archive, image, sound, video, etc...) Ability to analyze and understand malicious code (Windows PE, .Net, OLE2, JS, VBS, HTML, PDF, SWF, ELF) Good knowledge of Linux OS distributions, Linux API / kernel / POSIX standards Excellent knowledge of Windows PE file format Some experience in programming languages (Python, C#, C, C++) [At least 1 year in any] Fluency in English is Mandatory It would be GReAT if you also have/know : Some hobby experience is strongly desired, as we would love to see any blog posts or research you may have done on your own. Good communication skills; work with developers, analysts, researchers, marketing, PR, sales (etc). using “same language” Good presentation skills Technical article writing skills Experience in developing tools and documentation for other researchers Understanding the “big picture” of the IT Security industry + business High ethical standards
