Position Overview

In this global role, the VP, Portfolio Management & Strategy will lead, manage, direct and implement the Digital Underwriting enterprise strategy for RGA in collaboration with regional business teams and global technology teams.

The scope of this role is to manage a portfolio of Digital Underwriting products, solutions and supporting tools to deliver the enterprise vision. We are seeking a subject matter expert in the field of life (re)insurance Digital Underwriting and Product Management with extensive knowledge of the global Digital Underwriting market, including emerging trends, threats and technologies.

We are looking for a results-oriented, strategic visionary who can communicate a compelling vision, build relationships, lead through others and deliver tangible value to our clients. This is a hands-on position that requires you to be involved in the details and responsible for driving the execution.

Responsibilities
  • Leads and executes the long-term vision for RGA enterprise Digital Underwriting, product portfolio-level strategy & roadmap; utilizes change management practices to define and execute on the global portfolio suite of Digital Underwriting products strategy and roadmap; evolving continuously with regular input from key stakeholders and RGA leaders.
  • Leads, and directs the activities of a virtual team that consists of representatives from Global IT, Global Data & Analytics, Research, Marketing and Program Management to achieve the portfolio outcomes Drives a governance and operational structure to inform and influence roadmaps for products within the portfolio.
  • Conducts market research and stays abreast of the global trends in Digital Underwriting to maintain expertise on competitor intelligence for Digital Underwriting solutions. Leads and directs the focus on strategic product decisions and understanding of current and future competitive threats. Builds strategic alliances with third parties towards partnerships and innovation opportunities.
  • Directs the portfolio strategy and related projects to align with RGA’s strategic direction for revenue, market share growth and core positioning for Digital Underwriting. Collaborates with key leaders & stakeholders to set strategic business objectives & ensure buy-in on product and portfolio strategy.
  • Works with product managers and business owners to define and track key performance metrics for all products within the portfolio, provides input on product capabilities, roadmap and feature prioritization as necessary for strategy execution.
  • Leads the internal process to build awareness and understanding of the portfolio products with business teams, providing information and garnering support on the enterprise Digital Underwriting roadmap, industry trends and competitors.
  • Strategically manages business cases for global capabilities, new product submissions that will enhance regional products or strategies and alignment with RGA’s overall strategic objectives. Oversees consultation on solution design to business & IT teams to identify opportunities where the Digital Underwriting Portfolio can provide value & enable execution on enterprise, regional/local Digital Underwriting strategies.
  • Represents RGA at key conferences and client events on Digital Underwriting innovation.
  • Maintains regular and predictable attendance.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
Requirements

EDUCATION:

Required:

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience

Preferred:

  • MBA and/or master’s degree or equivalent experience

EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS:

Required:

  • 15+ years of progressive professional experience evaluating, delivering, and/or managing Digital Underwriting products in a complex, global environment.
  • 10+ years management experience
  • Experience working on large, complex development and/or process improvement projects.
  • Advanced knowledge of core insurance information systems
  • Advanced knowledge of insurance industry concepts, operational processes & underwriting
  • Ability to challenge the status quo in a facilitative and collaborative way.
  • Exceptional people management skills, demonstrating the ability to lead, mentor, and influence without authority; including the ability to delegate key areas of responsibility.
  • Expert ability in implementing change within an organization, ensuring understanding, participation, and ownership.
  • Highly advanced oral and written communication skills including presentation skills, demonstrating the ability to convey information in a way that is meaningful and well received by stakeholders, team members and external audiences.
  • Highly advanced ability to adapt new methods, work under tight deadlines and stressful conditions.
  • Expert skills in managing multiple projects and/or sub-teams simultaneously.
  • Highly advanced ability to make timely and effective decisions and produce results through strategic planning and the implementation and evaluation of programs and policies.
  • Highly advanced ability to implement organizational, divisional and/or departmental vision and goals that result in achievement and success through exceptional leadership skills, collaboration, creative thinking, maintaining focus, and persistence, even under adversity, while maintaining the confidence of associates and customers.
  • Expert ability to work well within and manage a team.

  • Expert persuasion and negotiation skills when working with internal/external customers to resolve issues/problems.
  • Ability to quickly learn and understand the Digital Underwriting Portfolio of products.
  • Ability to travel domestically and internationally and to participate in video and teleconferencing calls in global time zones to support RGA regional offices.

Preferred:

  • Insurance industry knowledge and certifications
  • 10+ years professional experience in information technology
  • 3-5 years experience in systems architecture

The general pay range for this position is $171,220 - $230,875 per year. Base pay varies depending on job-related knowledge, skills, experience, and market location. In addition, RGA provides an annual bonus plan that includes all roles and some positions are eligible for participation in our long-term equity incentive plan. RGA also maintains a full range of health, retirement, and other employee benefits.
