Descrição do trabalho

The Brazilian Synchrotron Light Laboratory (LNLS), which is a part of the National Center for Research in Energy and Materials (CNPEM), is responsible for operating the new Synchrotron Light Source, SIRIUS – one of the brightest Synchrotron Light sources in the world in its energy range. SIRIUS’ beamlines offer advanced Synchrotron Light techniques for studying various synthetic and natural materials. The methods in the X-ray range include diffraction, scattering, and absorption, as well as 2D and 3D imaging using incoherent and coherent light with several contrasts. These techniques help to uncover the secrets of complex heterogeneous materials, generating valuable knowledge and potentially wealth for society.

Main Activities

The selected candidate for this role will lead research and development in X-ray microscopy using multiple techniques at the Carnaúba beamline. They will also be required to develop advanced X-ray nanoscopy techniques using Synchrotron Light and implement and develop specific instruments for microscopy experiments at the beamline. The candidate will also need to explore nanometric focus on X-ray diffraction, absorption, and emission techniques and develop sample preparation procedures compatible with other related diffraction and spectroscopy techniques. Additionally, the candidate must establish data collection and processing strategies using the coherent X-ray beam and conduct scientific research within one of the strategic areas of LNLS/CNPEM. Finally, the candidate will be required to support the SIRIUS/LNLS user program.

Required Qualifications

We are seeking an exceptional candidate with a strong physics, chemistry, or engineering background, holding a PhD degree. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience working with Synchrotron Light techniques, specifically in X-ray microscopy techniques, to explore the coherence of the light beam. Additionally, experience in materials characterization, scientific instrumentation, and sample preparation would be highly valued. Fluency in English is a must.

The candidate we seek must possess essential qualities such as managing time, prioritizing tasks, and interacting effectively with the group and users at all levels.

This role differentiates itself in its need for demonstrated scientific leadership in materials science, extensive experience using Synchrotron Light, and solid formation in x-ray diffraction and absorption spectroscopy, primarily exploiting the coherence of the Synchrotron Light beam. Knowledge in data processing using advanced techniques with Synchrotron Light, specifically in 2D and 3D X-ray imaging, and training in instrumentation, having developed innovative experimental arrangements would be a bonus.
