As a Cloud Architect, you’ll be responsible for establishing and contributing to our strategic public cloud direction for Alight as well as providing support to product owners to deploy solutions into our public clouds.  You will need to apply technical expertise across multiple disciplines to understand clients’ technical drivers and consult on the best approach to achieve them while aligning to our public cloud strategies in key areas of operations, financial management, security, and automation.  The ideal candidate works in a strategic manor and possesses the know-how to solve major technical challenges; provides thought leadership for technical innovation; and can drive efficiency within Alight.

The requirements

You will need to have knowledge and experience in many of the following areas:

  • Ability to think strategically and relate architectural decisions/recommendations to business needs.
  • Deep understanding of cloud solution architecture in one or more major cloud service providers, with a strong focus on AWS and Azure.
  • In-depth experience with some or all these cloud concepts: Infrastructure as a Service, Serverless Architecture, Container Architecture, Platform as a Service, Storage, Infrastructure as Code, Identity and Access Management.
  • Working knowledge of automation and deployment tool e.g., Terraform and Ansible
  • Proven track record delivering within large-scale IT programs, taking ownership of the architecture and design activities and outputs.
  • Experience gaining alignment across business and IT, operating across organizational and technology teams to drive common approaches, delivering sustainable, agile, and re-usable solutions.
  • Comfortable presenting complex, technical topics in an actionable manner to senior leadership.
  • Worked in one or more of the following sectors: Human Resources; Utilities, Banking, Consumer Goods, Tech and Media, Public Sector, Health, Transport.

Project responsibilities

  • Define a cloud strategy to improve quality and speed of product deployments while aligning to our Alight polices and financial budgets.

  • Build and maintain reference architectures that align with our cloud strategy with a focus on operations, financial management, security, and automation.
  • Lead cloud/solution architecture stream of product deployments
  • Lead requirements gathering activities to fully understand both functional and non-functional requirements for any given project.
  • Drive a fit for purpose architecture and design aligned with wider architectural principles, policies, and design.
  • Manage design milestones and ensure effective design governance around key design decisions.
  • Build strong internal relationships within Advisory and across other services

People & Team responsibilities

  • Continuously grow public cloud service knowledge
  • Develop people through effectively coaching, and mentoring all levels of staff.
  • Contribute to people initiatives including recruiting, retaining, and training Architecture professionals.
  • Maintain an educational program to continually develop personal skills.
  • Understand, follow, and role model workplace policies and procedures

Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in computer science, engineering, or a related discipline
  •  6 years’ experience as a software development, operations, data, or security engineer/architect
  • Experience with project/goal management and tracking 
  • Ability to coordinate and work with diverse groups of subject matter experts. 
  • Self-starter, with a personal standard 'high bar' of performance excellence 

Preferred Qualifications

  • Accreditation and practitioner experience of TOGAF; IAF; IT4IT or similar frameworks
  • Passion for creating innovative solutions for consumers. 
  • Experience delivering enterprise products and services in a high growth environment. 
  • Experience working with diverse groups of people to manage and influence change. 
  • Experience coordinating complex product development cycles including hardware and software development schedules. 
  • Understanding of Product Management best practices and proven track record in working with cross-functional, no dedicated teams 
  • Broad technical breadth and depth including familiarity with web services, enterprise management tools and back-end application infrastructure. 
  • Strong technical acumen and understanding of emerging disruptive technologies, like cloud computing, open-source software, or software as a service. 
  • Superior oral and written communication skills 
  • Strong customer focus, ownership, urgency, and drive 
  • 8+ years in the technology industry in a technical, product management 
  • 3+ years’ experience hands-on with 1 or more public cloud provider 
  • Strong presentation skills and the ability to articulate complex concepts to cross functional audiences, with the ability to dive-deep on technical and architectural details with customers. 
  • Experience writing code, committing to open-source projects, understanding of the community mechanisms of open-source projects.

Pay Transparency Statement: Alight takes into consideration a candidate’s experience, education, certification/credentials, market data, internal equity, and geography when determining an offer for a successful employment candidate, and Alight does so on an individualized, non-discriminatory basis. Therefore, an offer may fall anywhere between the estimated minimum base salary for this role of $137,700.00/year (for full time employees) and the estimated maximum base salary for this role of $255,800.00/year (for full time employees). In addition to a base salary, this position may be eligible for a bonus and/or other incentive plans.
