We have multiple exciting opportunities for highly experienced Chemical, Material or Concrete Scientists to join as the core members of the managerial team on a partner track at Concrete4Change. Job Title: Concrete Scientist Location: This is an office-based position in Nottingham, United Kingdom. We can provide a working visa for you. (Flexible on start date based on notice period) About us: Concrete4Change (C4C) is a R&D company that is developing a ground-breaking technology to utilise and permanently mineralise CO2 in concrete. C4C technology won a wide range of awards including the United Nations (UN) most innovative Net-Zero technology Climate Challenge Cup at COP26 in Glasgow, Royal Academy of Engineering and UN SDG. C4C is partly owned by two of the largest concrete manufacturers in the World (Siam Cement Group and Goldbeck GmBH). C4C is running several projects in partnership with the University of Nottingham, University of Sheffield & University of Warwick (total project value of £5 million for 2024-2026). Job This position has a significant progress opportunity in a fast-growing team. You will be part of the core management team in order to deliver the C4C milestones and directly contribute to C4C’s growth. Please see the person's specifications and roles & responsibilities below: Essential: Please see the person's specifications and roles & responsibilities below: Essential: 5 years post PhD experience leading independent research, ability to design and conduct research addressing fundamental scientific questions Understanding of laboratory setup, HSE requirements, experience in equipment specification development and procurement Understanding carbonation mechanisms, and critical assessment of CO2 uptake and concrete performance over various life stages (product, use and end-of-life) Understanding concrete and cement chemistry R&D experience in developing low-carbon concrete Must have minimum 2 years experience of working in the UK or Europe Desirable: Experience in computational chemistry, analysis and simulation of synthetic materials Experience in carbon capture utilisation and storage Experience in patent writing and grant proposal development Experience in the mineralisation of CO2 for various applications. Roles & Responsibilities: Develop and regularly evaluate the strategy for the R&D in line with the goals of the company. Review all projects on a weekly basis, check approach and results. Ensure the projects are inline with their goals and provide critical feedback if there are issues or changes are required. Review all laboratory requirements, purchase requests, write purchasing requests, evaluate requirements and ensure budgets are utilised efficiently. Efficiently utilise external resources, plan and evaluate output. Modify the plans when required. Oversee the development of new projects. Ensure that these products align with the company's overall goals and strategy. Budgeting and Resource Allocation – manage the technology budget and allocate resources efficiently to support the organisation's technology initiatives. Negotiate contracts and maintain relationships with vendors, partners, and service providers. Ensure HSE regulation compliance throughout the company. Work closely with other executives, such as the CEO to align technology initiatives with the overall business strategy. Assess and mitigate technology-related risks such as equipment deliveries affecting work. Assess the scalability of the technology by monitoring its successful application in various carrier and concrete production scenarios, from small-scale prototypes to large construction projects. Monitor progress in achieving specific R&D milestones, such as improvements in efficiency, process optimization, or the development of novel materials. Monitor the acquisition and protection of patents and IP related to the carbonation technology to safeguard innovation. Compare the technology's performance and market adoption with competitors and similar technologies in the carbon utilisation and construction industries. Lead the development of carrier projects that can carbonate concrete in excess of 1wt% and reduce the cement content by 20wt%.
