Job Description

The primary responsibilities of the LAD Compliance Officer includes providing support to the Executive Director, Compliance Officer (EDCO) and as appropriate the Regional Governance, Risk and Compliance Officer (RGRCO) to define, implement, and lead the Olympus Corporation of the Americas (OCA) Compliance Program for identified OCA entities, divisions, business groups, or functions in the Latin America Division (LAD), which includes Olympus Optical do Brasil Ltda. (OBL), Olympus Latin America, Inc. (OLA), and Olympus America de Mexico S.A. de C.V. (OMS)). The incumbent will work in close alignment with the EDCO as well as business group and entity leadership, to develop and continuously improve the Olympus Compliance Management System and will be directly responsible for supporting and providing compliance direction and guidance to assigned entities, divisions, and business groups, and functions to ensure employees and third party sales and marketing intermediaries have the resources needed to conduct their business with the highest level of compliance and integrity. As a participant in the leadership of the assigned entities, the incumbent will engage with Olympus leadership and management on a regular basis to develop strategic priorities necessary to ensure Company’s Compliance Management System is effective and appropriate Compliance resources and support are appropriately engaged. The incumbent works with all members and levels of the Olympus Compliance Department, both at OCA and where appropriate globally, the Legal Department, HR, Finance, Internal Audit, and other functional and business areas and outside resources to ensure that Compliance Management System requirements are fulfilled in an appropriate manner.

Job Duties

  • Assist the EDCO and RGRCO in enhancing, further developing, implementing, maintaining, continuously improving and leading OCA’s Compliance Management System to ensure that it: Supports and promotes a company-wide culture of compliance; Enhances the reputation of OCA and minimizes risks of non- compliance with applicable laws and regulations; and Meets and exceeds the standards set forth in published government guidance.
  • Enhance overall compliance culture and program in the assigned OCA entities, divisions, and business groups (LAD Division) by building and strengthening relationships with key internal business partners.
  • Provide advice and day to day proactive ethics and compliance guidance to LAD (OLA, OBL, Puerto Rico, and Mexico) and other designated entities and distributors.
  • Provide compliance direction and guidance to assigned OCA entities, divisions, business groups, and functions (e.g., Tender Management, Sales and Marketing, Operations, Distributor Management) on a broad range of compliance obligations with OCA policies, procedures, written standards, risks and risk minimization strategies, actual and potential compliance-related issues, continuous improvement opportunities and corrective actions.
  • Provide continuous leadership and collaborates with members of the OCA Compliance Department, the Global Compliance function, the OCA Legal Department, and other OCA functional and business areas within OCA to ensure that appropriate actions are taken to ensure compliance with compliance policies, laws and regulations, and the Olympus Compliance Management System.
  • Proactively support Distributor Management personnel and distributors under the LAD Distributor Playbook, including providing compliance guidance and training.
  • Lead the development, revision, and updating of compliance policies, procedures, and written standards, collaborates with business stakeholders in address their written standards and control documentation relating to or impacting the Compliance Management System, contributes to the development, improvement, and implementation of a broad range of innovative Compliance training, education, and communication plans and tools to drive understanding of the Compliance Management System requirements, and encourages employee ownership of compliance at OCA and globally.

Job Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree and MBS, LLM, J.D. or equivalent relevant knowledge and experience is required.
  • A minimum of 10 years of compliance management system or relevant legal experience is required; medical device, pharmaceutical or life science industries experience, with experience implementing compliance management systems, and an understanding of sales and marketing practices highly preferred.
  • Fluent verbal and written communication skills in English and Spanish required. Fluent verbal and written communication skills in Portuguese preferred.
  • Experience in dealing with FCPA and Public Procurement matters is preferred.
  • Proficient knowledge and skill in Microsoft Office 365 required.
  • Ability to travel domestically and globally up to 40%
