Guidance, Navigation, and Control (GNC) System Engineer , KGS Integrated Engineering Solutions

Project Kuiper is a visionary initiative within Amazon that aims to revolutionize global connectivity through the development of a state-of-the-art Low Earth Orbit (LEO) interconnected satellite communication constellation. Our mission is to bridge the digital divide by delivering high-speed, low latency, internet services to underserved and unserved communities and remote communities around the world. By leveraging cutting-edge satellite technology, we are working towards a future where everyone has access to reliable and high-quality internet connectivity regardless of their location. The Kuiper Government Solutions (KGS) Engineering organization is a multi-disciplinary technology team established to rapidly address the needs of targeted government and international customers with specific solutions that have the potential to scale. KGS Engineering leads the development and delivery of targeted and scalable solutions for custom satellite and ground applications. KGS collaborates closely with Project Kuiper to leverage the constellation of advance satellites to provide seamless and efficient communication capabilities to meet the needs of our customers. The KGS Engineering team is seeking dynamic and talented individuals who are passionate about creating unique technical solutions that result in a positive impact on a global scale. The Guidance, Navigation, and Control (GNC) System Engineer will engage with an experienced cross-disciplinary team to design, integrate, and test innovative space-based and terrestrial applications. The GNC System Engineer will work closely with colleagues throughout Kuiper Government Solutions (KGS) inter-disciplinary teams and collaborate with key partners and suppliers in order to ensure our system exceeds customer expectations. The GNC Engineer must be responsive, flexible, innovative, and able to succeed within a collaborative, fast-paced, and dynamic environment. As a member of the KGS Engineering Integrated Engineering Solutions (IES) organization, the GNC System Engineer will be responsible for developing the architecture, defining requirements and interfaces, and executing the design, build, integration, test, and verification of complex space-based and terrestrial attitude determination and Control system (ADCS) subsystems. The candidate will have a background in control theory, state estimation, space vehicle design, optimization, and software development. The candidate will have proven, hands-on experience with the design of precision state estimation and Control of space vehicle communication payloads (RF antennas, optical inter-satellite links). The candidate will have the capabilities to design algorithms, author simulations, model dynamics, write flight software code, perform integration & test, verify requirements and validate on-orbit performance. The successful candidate will have demonstrated experience working on large-scale programs with a diverse set of talented individuals, as well as with partner organizations (including government agencies). Key job responsibilities
• Develop high-reliability GNC algorithms, simulations, and analysis tools using C, C++, Python, or Matlab and write code for production on systems
• Lead and participate in architecture development, design, and code reviews of complex ADCS subsystems
• Define requirements and interfaces, design, integrate, test, and verify GNC subsystems for space and Control systems for terrestrial environments
• Perform data analysis to review performance and functional data collected from both design verification tests, acceptance tests, and on-orbit/mission operations
• Create and maintain high quality GNC subsystem technical documentation of programs, algorithms, and analysis as well as engineering artifacts for drawings, code, and use cases
• Architect, write, and debug flight software code with an emphasis on generating code that is organized, structured, documented, maintainable and reusable for similar applications
• Collaborate with mechanical designers to develop and test electro-mechanical and electro-optical subsystems
• Debug, root-cause, and make continuous improvements of control systems in a high-rate production environment
• Produces and support reviews of GNC subsystem integration & test plans, procedures, test scripts, automation, and calibration routines
• Prepare reports documenting test system test results, test coverage and other KPI metrics, and communicate issues effectively with peer designers, developers, and managers Security Clearance: Candidates must be able to obtain and maintain a US Government security clearance of TS/SCI, so you must be a U.S. citizen for consideration.
