Alight is seeking a skilled and passionate IT Sr Application Development Technical Lead to join the Personal Communication Services team. The IT Sr Application Development Technical Lead for support is responsible for completing design, development, testing, reviews, code migration, and support for ongoing support activities such as defects, enhancements, upgrades, and maintenance for the applications.  They will work closely with client delivery to resolve issues daily.  In addition, they will provide server support/maintenance such as server upgrades, remediate vulnerabilities, and update certificates and key stores to maintain a secure and stable server environment for the application. 

The IT Sr Application Development Technical Lead will also be responsible for coaching other team members and performing quality reviews for team members.

The IT Sr Application Development Technical Lead should be deep in their technology and domain specialty but have learning agility and versatility to learn technology outside their specialty to improve delivery. A team-first mentality is required as well as the willingness to help other team members to improve the delivery success.


What You’ll Do

  • Works closely with development and support groups to develop, plan, and implement system enhancements and upgrades. 
  • Demonstrates excellent problem-solving techniques across multiple areas of technology and operational models. Resolves issues with wide impacts. Coaches others to build problem-solving skills. 
  • Provide support for ongoing applications, including but not limited to error debugging, application enhancement requests, documentation updates, server support, application upgrades, incident calls, certificate updates, keystore updates, etc.
  • Gathers and analyzes business needs and requirements. They can provide/suggest multiple solutions within and outside her/his area of expertise to meet needs. 
  • Facilitate outage restoration calls to access application impact, notify the business, and restore system issues. They will also be held responsible to document issue summary, provide root cause analysis, and implement remediation actions. 
  • Creates solid technical documentation and seeks and incorporates feedback where appropriate. They coaches others in writing technical documents.  
  • Interprets and executes the project management methodology/Agile and coaches others to understand and execute the project management methodology.
  • Lead client environment and systems requirement meetings to understand the client's needs/requirements and identify issues to complete the scoping. 
  • Configure the application to support requirements and design. 
  • Take a strong lead in working with the client throughout the life of a project or issue. 
  • Evaluates and synthesizes predictions for growth. For example, evaluates new hardware and software to determine its need and cost vs. benefit and/or application in the existing system.
  • Reviews applications for continuous improvement, analyzing applications for efficiencies and areas of improvement. 
  • Acts as a technical subject matter expert for the team on areas such as system functionality, solving operational issues, and performance initiatives. Actively participates in Communities of Practice and mentors team members, helping them to get deeper in their specialties, broaden into other specialties, and be more efficient.

Knowledge/Skills Needed:

  • Experience in these technologies is strongly suggested: Cloud Technologies, AWS, Terraform, Ansible, Linux, AWS, Server Support
  • Experience in AWS infrastructure (EC2, VPC, S3, EFS/EBS/FSx – instances, load balancers, security groups, network interfaces, subnets, buckets, policies, usage, encryption, etc.) and Security (IAM, KMS, WAF – users, groups, roles, firewalls, etc.)
  • Experience with New Relic
  • Experience in gathering customer requirements and translating into business needs.
  • Java Development, Spring, Spring Boot
  • Database concepts, database design and data modeling (Relational and Non-Relational database)
  • Server knowledge and Application Support
  • Excellent oral and written communications
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills including the use of Elastic, Kibana or Logstash
  • Be highly organized, able to multi-task and prioritize effectively in a fast-paced environment.
  • Have solid experience of Agile software methodologies and the Software Development Lifecycle
  • Have experience in leading and delivering successful projects on time.
  • Knowledge of data formats, including JSON, XML, and CSV
  • Knowledge of RESTful frameworks with a focus on API development and support
  • Ability to use and manage GIT repositories.
  • Experience working with continuous integration and development pipeline tools such as Jenkins, Jira, and Artifactory
  • System integration using synchronous and asynchronous protocols including SOAP, REST, IBM MQ, JMS, Kafka, or other technology.
  • Microservices concepts and frameworks
  • Demonstrated experience with Spring and Springboot, docker.
  • Experience working with Linux/Unix and Docker Containers.

Formal Education & Certification:

  • Bachelor’s degree (with preferred concentrations in Math, Actuarial Science, Finance, Computer Science, Economics, MIS, Engineering) or equivalent work experience. Master’s Degree in related areas a plus.
  • Computer application certifications, as applicable.
  • Minimum Experience of at least 5 years in designing complex technical solutions.(Preferred)
  • Minimum Experience of at least 3 years in Cloud Technologies (Preferred)
  • Minimum Experience of at least 3 years with the Java Programming Language (Preferred)

Pay Transparency Statement: Alight takes into consideration a candidate’s experience, education, certification/credentials, market data, internal equity, and geography when determining an offer for a successful employment candidate, and Alight does so on an individualized, non-discriminatory basis. Therefore, an offer may fall anywhere between the estimated minimum base salary for this role of $90,200.00/year (for full time employees) and the estimated maximum base salary for this role of $143,100.00/year (for full time employees).
