Descrição do trabalho

GE Vernova’s Advanced Research business is the central innovation engine for GE’s portfolio of energy businesses, which will be unified under one banner called GE Vernova. The research organization is made up of 250+ researchers representing virtually every major scientific and engineering discipline. Collectively, they are driving major research programs and initiatives to decarbonize power, accelerate renewables, and promote electrification and the creation of a 21st century grid fit to power a zero-carbon energy future.
The Vernova Electrical Systems (ES) team develops advanced electrical power technologies for several of GE Vernova’s businesses. Key focus areas include advanced motors and generators for power generation and industry; power electronics and their integration into electrical systems; electrical power systems with strength in modeling, analysis, design, protection, and control.
As a Lead Engineer – HV Engineering & Dielectrics, you will work in a team to broaden and accelerate our leadership position in the HV, MV, dielectrics and electrical insulation systems field. The long-term goal is to identify new strategic areas working closely with insulation testing and materials research teams that utilize novel insulation status monitoring, advanced dielectric material properties and dielectric techniques which can result in new material systems or new devices.

Roles and Responsibilities

  • Develop insulation coordination design methodology, dielectrics status monitoring techniques, and new materials with novel dielectric properties for projects relating electrification, renewable energy and decarbonization.

  • Work in a team to develop such methodology and materials by conducting analyses such as electrical circuit analysis, finite element analysis, partial discharge test, dielectric spectroscopy, impedance spectroscopy, voltage endurance, polarization techniques, PEA, TSDC and other fundamental techniques.

  • Demonstrate excellent verbal and written communication skills to explain complex polymer/dielectric topics.

  • Acts as a resource for colleagues.

  • May lead small projects with low risks and resource requirements.

  • Explains information; developing skills to bring team members to consensus around topics within field.

  • Conveys performance expectations and may handle sensitive issues.

Required Qualifications

  • Doctorate in Electrical Engineering, Physics, HV Engineering or related field with a minimum of 3 years of professional experience in High Voltage insulation or related field or a Masters degree in Electrical Engineering, Physics, HV Engineering or related field with a minimum of 6 years of professional experience in High Voltage insulation or related field

  • Record of external publications which demonstrate high quality research in the area of dielectrics or electrical insulation systems

  • Demonstrated success in meeting goals and objectives on time

  • Outstanding experimental research skills

  • Legal authorization to work in the U.S. is required. We will not sponsor individuals at the Masters level for employment visas, now or in the future, for this job opening.

Please note that citizens of embargoed countries who have either U.S. person” status under U.S. export control laws or subsequent citizenship from a non-embargoed country can be considered.

  • Must be willing to work out of an office located in Niskayuna, NY

  • Must be 18 years or older

  • You must submit your application for employment through GECareers.com to be considered.

Desired Characteristics

  • Innovative problem solver

  • Excellent written and verbal presentation skills

  • Good interpersonal skills

  • An understanding of polymers or ceramics and their properties as they relate to electrical insulation is desired.

  • The salary range for this position is $90,000-$175,000 USD annually. The specific salary offered to a candidate may be influenced by a variety of factors including the candidate’s experience, their education, and the work location.
