Summary

The MSL will be the scientific expert providing medical leadership in establishing deep understanding of the medical landscape in relation to Neurology and related Alexion products with the medical community in the field. He/she is a peer scientific expert who communicates accurate and applicable science to Healthcare Practitioners (HCPs) within Brazil. The MSL will provide strategic insight and input to Alexion activities related to Neurology and also will provide support to all functions within the Country to ensure achievement of local medical objectives. He/She should act towards the achievement of Alexion Global Medical Affairs mission to maximize patient outcomes by setting and continuously advancing the evidence-based medical standard of care. MSL should work completely in a non-promotional setting. In addition, the MSL maintains collegial and professional relationships with HCPs and identifies and facilitates collaboration opportunities with Alexion as Clinical Research Trials and ISRs. The MAM combines strong business acumen and clinical expertise and serves as a peer-to-peer liaison internally and externally (Sales Force, Support Teams, patients, physicians and other health professionals, hospitals, clinics and assistance services), leading to greater disclosure about the disease and its treatment through medical education initiatives.

Main responsibilities

Develop and maintain peer-to-peer collaborations and relationships with key medical experts in a relevant therapeutic area;

Collaborate with physicians on medical affairs initiatives including publications, investigator sponsored research (ISR), regional advisory boards, regional medical education opportunities, local studies, key projects, training and speaker development;

Drive the identification and development of and alignment with Key Opinion Leaders, other important customers and stakeholders, including professional organizations;

Serve as scientific peer-to-peer resource to disease experts in applicable therapeutic area. Support the medical community with up-to-date medical information, robust disease expertise and product information;

Scientific support for discussions of clinical cases discussions;

Administer medical lectures  Participate in sales force trainings providing scientific inputs , supporting the training area and strategic needs;

Support marketing team in the creation and validation of scientific materials addressed to the medical professionals;

Spread the importance of pharmacovigilance. Support PV staff and make reports when necessary. Assist in the active search for side effects;

Lead the implementation of medical affairs practices to assess new indications, the treating community, patient pathways, diagnostic practices and management strategies in relevant disease areas;

Communicate expert opinions and feedback on new data to Alexion/AstraZeneca Medical Affairs and therapeutic area franchises;

Provide medical and scientific support into the planning and execution of advisory boards and work with physician experts to review speaker presentations and provide additional medical background where requested;

Respond to unsolicited medical information requests in the region, manage questions and liaise with headquarters personnel to ensure proper response has been provided and that data is fair and balanced;

Identify patients in relevant diseases for inclusion in future clinical research projects and disease registries;

Support high impact medical education activities, such as advisory boards, congress symposia, hospital meetings and speaker development programs, as requested;

Understand local initiatives on disease and treatment guidelines;

Serve as an expert in specific therapeutic area demonstrating up-to-date and high level therapeutic expertise. Train Alexion internal stakeholders on key scientific and medical topics in relevant therapeutic area, as requested;

Depending upon therapeutic area, develop an understanding of the national landscape including specialties involved in care of patients in that area & other landscape mapping activities;

Engage in clinical research projects as interface with Global, monitor CROs and research centers, providing appropriate follow-up;

Support the construction of dossiers and scientific technical materials for demand generated by medical clients;

Conduct clinical case discussions for evaluation and validation of temporary drug donation to patients ;

Support the diagnostic support area in the evaluation and standardization of the tests provided by the partner laboratories;

Assistance to national and international speakers in participating in Symposia and Conferences sponsored by Alexion;

Ensure a close working relationship with all functions in country, including commercial operations, sales and marketing teams. Provide medical support to field counterparts;

Maintain compliance with all internal and external legal and regulatory guidelines;

Implement tactical regional plans to provide needs based, value-added support of the medical and scientific community in-line with company goals;

Assist in the execution of the demands addressed by Global related to the activities of Medical Affairs;

Other duties upon request including special projects.

Qualifications

Degree in Healthcare areas;

Excellent written and verbal communication skills in both local language and in English (mandatory);

Experience in relevant therapeutic areas related to drug development, recently-launched and marketed biologics/ therapies;

Candidates must have well-established networks and active relationships with KOLs focused on relevant therapeutic area;

Candidate should have excellent communication skills (oral and written);

Energetically embraces responsibilities, demonstrates ability to achieve goals;

Has a strong personal initiative, and functions well as part of a cross-functional team;

Exhibits excellent time management and able to work independently;

Ability to travel throughout Brazil for up 60% of the time;

Required travel to medical meetings, team meetings and other group meetings;

Maintain compliance with all internal and external legal and regulatory guidelines;

Deliver quality medical education presentations in a variety of settings (e.g. staff meetings, round tables, hospital meeting activities) and obtain feedback that can be disseminated throughout the organization;

Develop and maintain an effective collaborative working relationship with the wider matrix team;

Demonstrated ability to influence important customers, challenge common perceptions and implement medical affairs tools to improve patient care and outcomes;

Good analytical skills as applied to medical, scientific and technical information;

Demonstrated ability to accurately and effectively evaluate medical/scientific literature and develop effective medical strategies and communication strategies;

Other duties upon request including special projects.
