We are looking for a Safety Technician to join our QEHS team. In this position, you will report to the EHS Coordinator in Wärtsilä Brazil, and the location of the position is in Niterói/RJ, Brazil.

What you will be doing?
In this position, your work will include provide shared Occupational Health & Safety and Environmental support to the Workshop and Field Services in Niterói and Rio de Janeiro. On a typical day, you will support Marine business operations, promoting compliance with the Company´s management system and regulatory requirement.

Main responsibilities:

  • Implement health and safety procedures and develop local work procedures to comply with legal obligations and the Wärtsilä QEHS Management System.
  • Implement the health and safety policy, organization and arrangements in consultation with managers and staff.
  • Advise and assist the leadership and employees involved in the operation to plan, organize, control and maintain a safe and healthy working environment.
  • Perform regular site inspections and ensure compliance with regulatory and company standards.
  • Review and develop the Health and Safety Management Plan and communicate it at all levels.
  • Prepare and coordinate the internal EH&S audit and the audit process. Monitor whether the audit recommendations are being implemented within the agreed timescales.
  • Maintain the risk register and ensure that risk assessments are completed for all activities with significant risks.
  • Maintain documentation and records as required by legal obligations.
  • Support accident investigation and prevention: reporting accidents, dangerous occurrences and fire damage, helping to determine their causes and making recommendations to improve prevention and recurrence controls.
  • Ensure that all employees are trained in accordance with the Safety Procedure on Training and Induction.
  • Assist leadership to identify staff training needs.
  • Conduct on-site training in accordance with requirements.
  • Develop and implement solutions for on-site emergency preparedness plans.
  • Check/inspect that the necessary personal protective equipment is available for each employee, according to the nature of their work.
  • Monitor QEHS performance through internal audits and develop line managers' proactive reporting system.
  • Maintain effective communication and reporting with internal and external stakeholders.

Requirements:

  • Safety Technician degree is mandatory
  • Experience as Safety Technician
  • Intermediate English (desirable)
  • Knowledge of Regulatory Norms and associated Legislation
  • Knowledge of Quality, Environmental and Occupational Safety procedures, guidelines and management standards;(ISO 9001, ISO 14001, ISO 45001)
