Job Summary
The Software Systems Eng Staff (Specialist level) is a seasoned experienced professional with a full understanding of the area of specialization while responsible for a variety of software development engineering systems issues. This job is the fully qualified, career-oriented, journey-level position. Is an individual contributor level that does not lead other employees or teams.
Responsibilities
A seasoned experienced professional with a full understanding of area of specialization; resolves a wide range of issues in creative ways. Normally receives little instruction on day-to-day work, general instructions on new assignments
Works on problems of diverse scope where analysis of data requires evaluation of identifiable factors
Designs, develops and operates large parts of core software that runs the cloud, which interconnects across the Equinix ecosystem
Implements operational tooling and monitoring systems to provide insights into all parts of the system (e.g., network, hardware)
Builds specialized systems and software to solve for long-term and emerging challenges
Demonstrates good judgment in selecting methods and techniques for obtaining solutions
Collaborates with cross functional stakeholders across Equinix
Hands-on development of key micro-services of CI/CD and is part of the DevOps culture where there is ownership responsibility for all the services put into production
Actively participates in continuous improvement of process and systems that support Equinix's software development lifecycle (SDLC), values, and culture
Independently comes up with designs for a major feature and component of the systems
Uses diverse analytical and problem solving skills with a sense of curiosity
Ability to execute with a sense of urgency, delivering services to meet diverse customer demands on a timely basis
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills internally and externally including the ability to document solutions and create architectural diagrams
Normally receives little instruction on day-to-day work, general instructions on new assignments
Mentors junior members of the team
Qualifications
Typically requires a minimum of 5 years of related experience with a Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience
