Sustainability program leader

Job Description Summary

The Sustainability program leader has the responsibility to define and implement strategy for the program as defined in Partnership framework agreement and deliver upon our sustainability commitments. His role also consists in embedding sustainability into the daily operation across all functions of the TenneT 2GW program.

The Sustainability program leader will be ensuring compliance to regulatory framework, working together with customers to support commercial commitments and coordinate with our operational business to implement program & sustainability action plans.


The Sustainability program leader will be reporting directly to  the Portfolio Leaders.

Operational

  • Ensure adherence to the partnership principles and scope defined in the framework agreement. 
  • Ensure compliance of the business practices on the project vs the applicable legislature as well as customer contractual requirements on sustainability (including monitoring and regular audit vs existing legislature and customer requirements)
  • Integrate sustainability KPIs for the project. Organize the assessment of the current performance vs sustainability criteria and its reporting to the management and external stakeholders

Strategy

  • Support the implementation of the program strategy
  • Prepare the sustainability strategy for the project aligned with the organizational, customer and project goals
  • Execute the sustainability strategy anticipating regulatory trends and their impact to ensure compliance with sustainability regulation, assess risk management and establish the corresponding internal processes and policies.
  • Liaising with different internal and external stakeholders to align different aspects of sustainability strategy and ensure its implementation into various business functions (Sourcing, Engineering, project management, corporate governance)
  • Providing educational and training sessions to increase the project team awareness on the sustainability goals
  • Ensure continuous improvement of the applicable KPI metrics and sustainability strategy based on the best industrial practices, stakeholder feedback and evolving environment
  • Drive organizational cultural change, embed sustainability in decision-making processes  and integrate sustainability into the DNA of the project organization.

PR / Marketing

  • Working with the company PR and marketing teams on marketing strategies to promote the company's commitments on sustainability and key sustainability milestones for the project

Qualification

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited university or college or the same knowledge/experience - educational background in sustainability, environmental science or strategic management, or related field
  • Minimum 5 years of Project/Program management background
  • Minimum 3 year of strategic management background is an advantage
  • Project/program management experience in international projects with multiple external stakeholders is a strong advantage
  • Experience in corporate management is an advantage

  • Deep analytical skills. Capable of working with large datasets, database management;  knowledge of sustainability reporting tools is a benefit
  • Strong leadership skills
  • Excellent interpersonal and oral and written communication skills; integrative team working style, able to work into a multi-cultural environment.
  • Ability to make decisions with limited or conflicting data.
  • Strong rigor in reporting and documentation.
  • Ability to manage multiple transactions and priorities simultaneously.
  • Strategic mindset. Ability to see big picture and identify the larger opportunities or challenges that need to be tackled in order for the business to achieve its long-term goals, including those across functions that must be tackled to enable long term profitable growth.
  • Demonstrated ability to take a masterplan through to action and implementation and achieve new/improved outcomes.
  • Ability to structure/organize a cross functional and cross-country Program organization. Ability to think long term profitable growth vs. short term goals.
  • Collaboration. Modeling ownership and accountability for results while collaborating with other senior leaders effectively to do what is best for the overall program, including clear communication and leadership behaviors as noted below. Demonstration of holding team accountable to do the same.
  • Fluent in English (speaking and writing)
  • Location: Germany (Berlin), other location possible (Boulogne, Belfort)
