Overview of the Global Brand Protection team

The Global Brand Protection team is responsible for the provision of specialist support to the market Brand Protection teams, by setting and ensuring application of policies, providing guidance and tools to enable more effective local actions, and developing projects with global application.

Scope of role, reporting line

LAC is considered a strategic Brand Protection region, due to the size of the market, the growth opportunity for Diageo’s brands, in particular tequila, and the high level of counterfeits found in e-commerce and social media channels in LAC. This role will be key to establishing and maintaining communications between the Global Brand Protection team and the market teams within LAC, and developing and leading region-wide strategies to identify and address the counterfeit risk.

The role reports directly to the Global Head of Brand Protection. Accountabilities include:

building capability and establishing strong internal and external relationships in the region; monitoring the counterfeit landscape within LAC and reporting on the risk level and mitigation plans to senior LAC leadership, including updating the RMC as required; taking a direct lead in managing cross-market and cross-regional matters and markets within the Americas which have no Brand Protection resource; embedding great governance, effective compliance and risk mitigation plans across the region; leading the LAC bottle collection and recycling challenge, supporting markets to grow their recycling programmes, contributing to Diageo’s Society 2030 goals; managing the LAC customs monitoring applications across the region; developing and co-owning the global online Brand Protection strategy, alongside the Global Brand Protection Manager APAC, and managing relationships with online marketplaces/platforms in the LAC region; and leading the ownership of the protection of the tequila brands with regard to packaging security and pack and liquid authentication capabilities, which require upgrading to meet current challenges.

This role will also play a leadership role within the Global Brand Protection team, supporting the Global Head of Brand Protection by leading on the delivery of projects with global application and by providing support and guidance to junior team members. Such projects would include data management and analytics across the function.

Team

While this role will not directly manage the LAC market managers, they will have dotted-line reporting from Brand Protection Managers in Brazil, CCA, Colombia, Mexico, South LAC and Venezuela. This group ranges from very experienced Brand Protection Managers to managers who are relatively new to the business so the role will need to flex their leadership and influence capabilities accordingly.

The role will directly contribute to driving Diageo towards achieving its Performance Ambition of creating the best performing, most trusted and respected consumer products company in the world, by delivering Brand Protection in LAC and driving more success in preventing counterfeiting of our products.

Qualification and experience

  • At least 3 years’ experience in Brand Protection, ideally with a Bachelor’s degree, and with in-depth Brand Protection experience in the LAC region.
  • Experience gained in a similar sized MNC, preferably an FMCG or equally fast paced industry, with proven ability to work in the commercial environment and maintain ruthless focus on business priorities.
  • Exceptional leadership skills, with experience of effectively leading, managing and influencing stakeholders across multiple countries.
  • Fluency in English, Spanish and ideally Portuguese, but other language skills an advantage.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team, prioritise, meet deadlines and budget plans.
