About the Team The Data Engineering team focuses on building core Business Intelligence and Data Warehousing Solutions for multiple business verticals at Uber, like Risk, Money, Payments, Finance, and Safety. The team works across multiple Uber areas, including Risk, Fraud, Safety, Insurance, Finance, and AdTech Marketing teams. Our expertise is in large-scale distributed batch processing, analytics, data modeling, data visualization, and big data. Over the last few years, we have built data solutions from the ground up, focusing on centralizing, scaling, and simplifying data consumption and access. Our team is also working on multiple Data Engineering initiatives (like optimizing compute and storage consumptions) to help every team at Uber bring down CPU and storage costs. In the last 12 months alone, these initiatives have helped save more than $10M in hardware costs at Uber. We use Hadoop/HDFS, Spark, Kafka, Samza, Cassandra, Hive and more What You'll Do: This position involves collaborating with stakeholders to transform intricate business or technical issues into comprehensive data tools and solutions like pipelines, models, and tables. Additionally, the role involves spearheading team initiatives to create and implement extensive data systems such as databases, data warehouses, and big data systems. These systems will be utilized for various analytics and business applications. Minimum qualifications: Bachelor's degree or equivalent in Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics or related field OR +3 years of total software engineering experience in one or more of the following areas: Programming language (e.G. C, C++, Java, Python, or Go) Note the 1-year total of specialized software engineering experience may have been gained through education and full-time work experience, additional training, coursework, research, or similar (OR some combination of these). The year of specialized experience is not necessarily in addition to the years of Education & full-time work experience indicated.
