This team in the System Design Technologies section supports the RISE and GE9X programs. In this role you will conduct analyses and tests to define and optimize the design of a variety of hot gas path components using heat transfer and fluid mechanics analysis tools, rig testing, and engine testing. You will contribute to new product introduction, improving existing products, and resolving manufacturing issues with mechanical design engineers.

Roles and Responsibilities

  • Participate throughout the design process to analyze and influence the rotor, stator, and/or Component Cooling designs from the design phase through certification
  • Perform thermal analysis using finite element analysis (FEA) and/or computational fluid dynamics (CFD) analysis in support of new engine designs and fielded products
  • Execute with guidance the analysis, design, test, and integration of fluid systems to meet business standards, practices and procedures, and the product/program requirements
  • Plan and execute component and engine test programs and utilize the results to validate engine designs, systems, and analytical models
  • Present analysis results, validation, and upcoming milestone status to relevant customers
  • Prepare invention disclosures for technology that provides a competitive advantage
  • Participate on teams assigned to address engineering and organizational initiatives
  • Collaborate with others by sharing information to solve problems and promote open dialogue. Communicate openly and clearly with other team members from other disciplines.
  • Assure proper documentation of technical data consistent with engineering policies.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical, Aerospace, or closely related field of Engineering from an accredited college or university
  • Minimum 3 years of experience in an engineering role
  • This role is restricted to U.S. persons (i.e., U.S. citizens, permanent residents, and other protected individuals under the Immigration and Naturalization Act, 8 U.S.C. 1324b(a)(3)) due to access to export-controlled technology. GE will require proof of status prior to employment.

Desired Characteristics

  • Advanced Degree in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering with emphasis in heat transfer or fluid mechanics
  • Experience with the fundamentals of heat transfer and compressible flows, including applicable engineering tools and systems
  • Strong problem identification and solution skills
  • Ability to plan, execute, and document engineering activities
  • Effective in contributing in a structured, cross-functional team environment
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills. Shares critical information, speaks with candor, and contributes constructively
