An excellent career opportunity is currently available for a Machine Safety Engineer in the Industrial Automation (IA) Integrated Supply Chain (ISC) Engineering Team. The Machine Safety Engineer will work with a collaborative team to drive Machine Safety excellence, focused on implementation of effective solutions that assure regulatory compliance and management of Machine Safety risk across the IA portfolio.
The salary range for this position is ($98,400 - $130,000). The actual base salary offer will depend on a variety of factors including experience, education, geography and other relevant factors.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Collaborating with a team of global engineers to execute machine safeguarding projects consistent with national and global regulatory standards and Honeywell Corporate procedures and processes.
- Traveling to Honeywell sites to perform safety assessments of industrial machinery including machine safeguarding and functional safety system reviews.
- Completing design/drawing reviews, engineering and implementing safety solutions to address any required remediation.
- Providing expert hands-on technical advice on issues, programs, and processes involving compliance with Machine Safety standards and policies and interpretation of local, national and global requirements and regulations.
- Reviewing and interpreting new Honeywell Corporate and governmental requirements regarding Machine Safety systems
- Executing the safety system improvement plan across all businesses within IA (engineering through remediation)
- Collaborating with consultants and other Machine Safety system services used for needs that occur across the business (assessments, design, validations, etc..)
- Leading or participating in significant Machine Safety system related incident investigations and root cause analyses
- Training new manufacturing engineers on Machine Safety systems/processes
- Coordinating with machine suppliers for new capital installations as needed
- Evaluate safety function components (field inputs, final elements, and controllers/logic solvers) to drive optimization and standardization to applicable standards
- Ability to travel 50-70%
U.S. PERSON REQUIREMENTS
Due to compliance with U.S. export control laws and regulations, candidate must be a U.S. Person, which is defined as, a U.S. citizen, a U.S. permanent resident, or have protected status in the U.S. under asylum or refugee status or have the ability to obtain an export authorization
MUST HAVE:
- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution in a technical discipline such as the sciences, technology, engineering or mathematics
- 3-5+ years of hands-on industrial experience in machine safeguarding, controls, and/or mechanical engineering
WE VALUE
- Must have or be able to obtain within 12 months of hire, certification as a functional safety engineer (CSME or TUV certified functional safety engineer). Training and certification, if needed, will be provided by the company.
- Advanced degree in engineering and/or professional Machine Safety system certifications
- Excellent knowledge of US and global Machine Safety system regulations (ANSI, ISO, EMD, etc.)
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Familiarity with ISO 13949-1 Safety of Machinery- safety related parts of Control Systems
- Familiarity with Safety devices and components such as Light curtains, Lidar safety scanners, Door Interlocks, Lock out tag out hardware
- Strong understanding of electrical, hydraulic and pneumatic components and controls (stack valves, valve blocks, check valves, and pressure monitoring)
- Understanding of sound engineering principles including ergonomics and noise control
- Exposure to robotics and automated manufacturing within high volume manufacturing
- Exposure to both industrial and collaborative robots
