Tactical Buyer:

You are an energetic, driven individual who is willing to go the extra mile to make sure that materials and services are purchased in the most cost-efficient and qualitatively excellent manner. You are proud of your ability to negotiate and find the right solutions in a large market and are looking to build a career with a company that is a world leader in expander technology and in sustainable turbomachinery solutions like geothermal power, waste heat to power, energy storage, solar power, and hydrogen processes. You thrive in a high-pressure, high-demand environment and can obtain the best possible terms during the purchasing process while maintaining a positive, upbeat relationship with your counterpart.

The compensation range for this position is $67,392.00 - $84,822.40 annually. The compensation package may also include incentive compensation opportunities in the form of discretionary annual bonus. What you will own & improve

  • You will actively purchase components, materials, and services to make sure that the manufacturing department can build in accordance with the overall schedule.
  • You will make sure that the cost of the materials/services purchased does not exceed the budget assigned at the beginning of the project.
  • If applicable, you will make sure that the quality requirements of the materials/services purchased are consistent with the project’s requirements specified in the Quality Plan.
  • You will interact with external vendors to make sure that the sourcing process is efficient, cost effective and of the highest quality.
  • You will proactively engage with your vendors to make sure their manufacturing processes focus on quality and efficiency. If necessary, you will visit the vendor to verify their progress.
  • You will communicate with all necessary internal stakeholders, so they are all aware of the technical or process issues of the materials and services that are critical to meeting order delivery schedules.

What you already know

  • Your technical degree and/or equivalent experience provides you with a general understanding of major components’ prices, lead times and manufacturing technologies.
  • Ideally, you have experience purchasing materials in a manufacturing environment.
  • You are able to identify when the feedback you are receiving from a vendor doesn’t align with the known reality of their manufacturing process.
  • You are very detail oriented and organized and work well under the pressure of many tasks in your list.
  • You are bothered when things are over budget.

How Success is measured

  • The actual cost vs. budget of the components/services is the first measure of success.
  • The quality of the goods or services delivered is the second measure of success.
  • The quality of the relationships with the vendors is the third measure for each project.

  • Atlas Copco/GAP policies and procedures, including vendor business code of practice rules.

About the Team:

This role reports directly to the Sourcing Manager of a 10-person team that purchases components and services for a Company that sells, designs, manufactures and services turboexpanders world-wide. 

Atlas Copco Mafi-Trench Company LLC is located on the beautiful Central Coast of California. We manufacture a wide range of Turbo Expanders and equipment that support renewable energy as well as liquified natural gas, chemical and petrochemical industries.

Locally our facility is a California Certified Green Business. Our Think GREEN Initiative has reduced our landfill impact significantly by implementing ambitious recycling programs and reduced our carbon footprint. 100% of the power of the factory is from solar power!
