What you will do in this role:
As a Terminal Manager, you will be in a key leadership role driven by safety, quality, service and efficiency to achieve the company's strategic objectives and maximize customer satisfaction.  The Terminal Manager is responsible for the operational, financial and service performance of the terminal, overseeing terminal safety, operations, building strong relationships with on-site customers, integrating Vopak and customer standards, and cultivating a "One Terminal" culture amongst a multi-faceted workforce.  The Terminal Manager is highly collaborative and will work closely with the Commercial, Customer Service and Technical Reliability & Maintenance teams. 


Your Core Responsibilities:

  • Develop and implement plans and processes for the terminal to ensure the delivery of services in line with agreed planning and specifications as well as logistic, financial and SHEQ performance. 

  • Continuously provide operational leadership, guidance and advice to staff to deliver quality, value-add services to customers.

  • Support, execute and monitor the business plan and budget, in line with the Company strategy in order to have clear annual objectives and guidance for planning and decisions to achieve business results. 

  • Ensure internal controls in place to achieve organization’s objectives in operational effectiveness and efficiency, safety reliable reporting, and compliance with laws, regulations and policies, involving everything that controls risks to the organization

  • Build collaborative relationships with on-site customers and lead Vopak operations with a service mindset.  Translate service requirements of our customers into internal operating requirements.

  • Organize, supervise and monitor customer service terminal activities to ensure all administration, logistics, product inventory management and service level meet customers’ expectations and company’s objectives. Ensure close relationships are maintained with customers and any grievances are addressed and problems are timely solved.

  • Oversee the cost and efficiency of terminal structure (organizational design, processes, systems and culture) to enable optimal business performance and meet legal requirements at the terminal / location

  • Drive a "One Terminal" culture by providing leadership to a multi-faceted workforce, to deliver high quality, sustainable, and consistent terminal performance. 

  • Lead, manage and develop next level managers in the terminals to grow the succession pipeline in the terminal operations leadership team, including Sustaining Capex projects and technical teams.

  • Build strong stakeholder relationship both internally and externally, including any government bodies, local authorities and contractors

  • Plan and control departments’ budget by justifying budget allocations and controlling budget requisition so as to ensure the operating & maintenance budget are properly planned and adhered to

  • Support and implement local SHEQ policy and processes, in order to meet legal obligations and have a license to operate, guarantee process and service quality, and ensure a safe and healthy working environment for employees

  • Lead continuous improvement program and embed proactive, continuous improvement culture throughout the organization. Establish process monitoring, priorities improvement opportunities, scope out improvement projects and translate into strategies/projects with measurable objectives. Develop business cases for process improvement initiatives with quantifiable result

  • Supports growth project conceptualization, development, construction and commissioning.  In close partnership with Commercial and Project Management teams, the Terminal Manager will organize resources to ensure operational readiness including requirements and subsequent procedures, and development of trained personnel to commission and operate these new facilities.

What We Expect: 

  • Degree in Engineering or related discipline

  • At least 8 12 years’ experience in similar role and industry

  • Strong background and work experience in operations and maintenance preferably in industrial terminal operations, logistics or related industry

  • Strong and sound knowledge of operations, safety, product (Oil, Chemicals and Gases) and domain technical knowledge

  • Possess business acumen and demonstrate awareness of underlying customer needs and prevailing industry/market trends and practices

  • Possess depth and breadth of general managerial experience

  • Demonstrate leadership and people management of large teams

  • Demonstrate Strategic Thinking and project management skills

  • Strong network and stakeholder relationship and management skills

  • Strong planning, organizing and analytical skills

  • Ability to work under pressure in a fast-paced environment

  • Global mindset coupled with cultural sensitivity with hands on experience

This position is performed primarily from an office environment; however, there are frequent trips within the field.  While in the field, this position requires an employee to be exposed to outside elements.  Most extreme elements are heat in the summer months of up to 100°+ and some exposure to cold of generally no less than 32° in the winter months.  There will be exposure to various chemicals and compounds, including fumes and smells, some of them hazardous.  Employee must be able to wear PPE required by the location.  Loud sounds and vibrations will be experienced at times.  The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.  All environments are safe with appropriate PPE.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to walk (sometimes over long distances), sit, speak, and hear.  The employee is required, for extended periods of time, to stand, use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; the employee will be required to climb or balance, stoop, kneel, or crouch; must be able to twist around repeatedly. The employee will be required to climb ladders and storage tanks up to 50’ in height. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus. Employee may be required to travel by car, truck or other land vehicles.
