Description Position overview: The Market Development Specialist (MDS) is a key element of SDI's Business Development organization and the growth strategy. At the front end of SDI's sales process, the MDS focuses on identifying, targeting, and pursuing prospect organizations within specific vertical markets and engages them in our process. The MDS role is a developmental role where success will lead to a pathway for advancement to managerial positions within the Business Development organization or other SDI functional areas. A typical day in the life of a Market Development Specialist:
- Learn SDI's business and how we create and deliver value to our clients.
- Collaborate and partner with Marketing and Solution Design teams to ensure flawless execution of SDI's go-to market strategy.
- Research, study, and analyze target markets, verticals, and organizations.
- Engage with prospective clients through purposeful phone and email prospecting.
- Conduct needs analysis and determine whether there is an opportunity for SDI to provide value and if an opportunity exists.
- Continuously collect market & competitive intelligence.
- Communicate industry/vertical-specific commercial insights.
- Aggressively follow up on all inbound leads from phone, website, tradeshows, etc.
- Build & cultivate key organization and prospect relationships.
- Capture all contact records and related activities in CRM.
- Create opportunities to advance the sales process through client meetings and or visits to SDI Solutions Center.
- Ensure positive momentum through the management and growth of a large database of target prospects and a pipeline of qualified opportunities.
- Bachelor's Degree or equivalent work experience.
- Previous experience in a business development or account executive role.
- Strong work ethic and a "can do" attitude.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to multi-task, prioritize and manage time effectively.
- Experience within the Supply Chain or Logistics industry is a plus.
- Natural curiosity about all things, particularly organizations, people, and processes.
- Goal oriented, motivated with a strong process orientation.
- Creativity and innovation.
- Can work independently but also be a productive team member.
- Ability to engage prospects and uncover latent needs and wants through the use of relevant commercial insights, insightful questions, and active listening.
