Job Description:
Where you fit in?
Shell Energy is building a global integrated power business in key regions – leveraging capabilities across the full generation, trading, and marketing value chain – selectively pursuing focused opportunities in market segments where we bring a clear competitive advantage. We aspire to build a profitable business that supports the decarbonization of our customers, Shell, and society through diligent focus on performance, discipline, simplification, and integration, and applying a value over volume approach.
In the Americas region, the Offshore Power Americas Team is responsible for regional growth and the delivery of the offshore wind portfolio in North and South America and the onshore renewables portfolio in Latin America. In the US, Shell currently holds material equity positions in offshore wind and coordinated transmission ventures along the Atlantic seaboard and aspires to build on existing positions to integrate with non-regulated markets over time. In Brazil, Shell currently manages a portfolio funnel that includes onshore solar and wind opportunities – maintaining line of sight to potential future opportunities in offshore wind – progressing development, maintaining close links to power trading and marketing, and ensuring future portfolio optionality.
What’s the role?
Driving implementation of the commercial strategy and commercial optimization in support of the development and bottom-line delivery of Shell’s LATAM RG business and reporting to the Head of Renewables. This role assists with acquisitions and divestments of renewable energy projects, supports creation of potential joint ventures in Brazil, and synthesized and communicates views on global supply and demand – identifying supply gaps and facilitating transactions to address them. The successful candidate will also help optimize commercial opportunities for renewable projects, including potential equity sell-downs, debt raises, upgrades, and repowering opportunities.
Accountabilities:
- Serves as core member of the integrated Project Delivery Team (PLT) with cross-functional representation and assists the Head of Renewables LATAM in aligning the global demand/supply view across customers, sectors, technologies, and regions.
- Act as a representative for Shell in Joint-Ventures, either as the commercial lead or as the Shell Shareholder Representative and depending on scale.
- Support the sourcing and execution of project/platform acquisitions and development partnerships globally, targeting areas that fill gaps in the aligned demand/supply view.
- Conduct strategic market reviews and analysis to identify suitable targets and partnerships.
- Take ownership of specific strategic and commercial transaction workstreams, collaborating closely with Shell internal groups for detailed financial analysis.
- Support stakeholder management activities, maintaining the risk register, organizing framing workshops, and ensuring compliance with the ORS process.
- Manage due diligence workstreams with representatives from various functional support groups (finance, legal, technical, development, etc.,).
- Support divestments of development projects and operating assets to optimize the value of Shell's renewable portfolio.
- Collaborate with Shell internal groups including finance, legal, corporate development, yield/engineers, real estate, strategy, contracts and procurement, ethics and compliance, and Shell Energy to support commercial optimization activities for RG Brazil projects, including equity/partnership interest sales, debt raises, upgrade initiatives, and repowering.
- Responsible to monitor and report on competitor Renewable Generation activity in the region – linking into Offshore Power Americas Portfolio Integration Lead to share insights and ensure robust portfolio characterization.
What we need from you?
- Credible Energy Industry Professional with at least 8 years of experience supporting capital projects in Renewable Power, Upstream, IG, or Downstream
- Must have legal authorization to work in Brazil on a full-time basis.
- Strong valuation experience in economic-financial modeling, specifically related to renewable energy projects for debt, equity, or tax equity transactions.
- Demonstrated experience in the commercial aspects of renewable energy and/or power markets, with knowledge of technical elements/technologies (wind, solar, storage), market structures, and offtake dynamics.
- Exposure to deal delivery, including an understanding of the origination, diligence, structuring, and negotiation process. Familiarity with legal contracts and contract negotiation.
- Proven experience in managing projects or workstreams within larger initiatives, showing strong leadership skills in cross-functional teams.
- Ability to switch between high-level strategic thinking and detailed execution, while keeping focus on strategic objectives and day-to-day deliverables.
- Adaptability in a fast-paced, multi-project environment, displaying responsiveness, flexibility, and a focus on delivering results.
- Culturally sensitive with the ability to build and maintain strong relationships with Shell, partners, and stakeholders.
- Strong drive for achievement and a cooperative work ethic.
- Humility and curiosity to seek and be open to diverse opinions and challenge.
- Genuine care for people, including willingness to motivate, coach and support as part of an engaged and empowered team.
