Job Description We are seeking a Remote Assistant Vice President, Risk Control Property for our Sompo North America Property Specialist team. This position will be fully remote based in the Texas, California, Colorado, or Arizona regions. Depending on level of experience, this role may be hired as a Senior Risk Specialist. As an Assistant Vice President, Risk Control Property, you will support the Large Accounts Property unit and larger, more complex risks within the Middle Market portfolio as well. The focus of this position is to evaluate the risk of loss exposures and controls, conduct on-site visits and insurance surveys, and aid the underwriters in the selection and pricing of an account. Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Conduct comprehensive surveys of high value, complex property risks
  • Evaluate fire protection and sprinkler systems designs and adequacies for compliance purposes
  • Estimate Probable Maximum Loss (PML) and Maximum Foreseeable Loss (MFL)
  • Support field staff and underwriting with risk evaluations for complex property accounts and account issues
  • Partner with property underwriting groups to support key underwriting initiatives and interpret technical criteria to increase retention and reduce reinsurance costs
  • Develop technical guidelines related to property protection and evaluations
  • Proactively provide feedback to the property specialists team to ensure guidelines are up to date and accurate
  • Collaborate with the other technical specialists and management to promote quality analysis and service
  • Foster the business in the marketplace by attending conferences and participating in industry organizations
  • Effectively communicate with clients and internal Sompo teams to resolve clients concerns
Qualifications
  • 6 - 8 years of experience in insurance and property loss control
  • Expertise in fire science, hydraulics, and evaluations of natural catastrophe exposures
  • In-depth knowledge and experience in the application of NFPA and FM standards
  • 4-year undergraduate degree or equivalent level of work experience
  • Ability to effectively convey information and ideas in a clear, concise, and engaging manner
  • Proven track record of analytical, project management, and planning skills
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license or other related certification preferred, but not required
  • Ability to travel approximately 30%-35% of the time
Salary Range: $130,000- $175,000 Actual compensation for this role will depend on several factors including the cost of living associated with your work location, your qualifications, skills, competencies, and relevant experience.
